Bringing our trauma expertise to the international stage

On the 7th – 8th November, the Business Continuity Institute will be hosting its annual world conference in London and KRTS International will be playing its part in making this the “must-attend event for any Business Continuity or Resilience professional” www.bciworld2017.com
Dr Liz Royle will be presenting on the subject of “Recovery from psychological trauma: Key principles and pitfalls.”
The session will begin by considering some of the complex factors that influence whether or not an incident is potentially traumatic for those involved and why some people may be affected more than others. It provides an insight into psychological trauma and what is actually happening in the person’s brain both during and after the event. This is crucial as, in order to be effective, everything that we do to prepare for and respond to a traumatic event, should be underpinned by knowledge of the human survival response.
The session will move on to discuss the 3 tasks necessary for the human brain to recover from trauma and how these inform the principles of providing organisational support – both in the immediate aftermath and the longer term rehabilitation of affected individuals. As well as considering these key principles, the session will set out some of the most common pitfalls to avoid when creating processes to manage the human aspects of business continuity.
Chartered psychologist Cath Kerr will be delivering an exhibition seminar entitled “Let’s get personal – the rationale for managing the psychological impact of critical incidents.”
As Cath says, “Staff are the most valuable asset in any organisation, yet sometimes the human continuity aspect of recovery is overlooked while all the practical elements are being dealt with. There are many reasons for this, but this seminar looks at the rationale behind managing this well. It will also give you the opportunity to ask any burning questions you may have in this area!”
