Our founders' background

About Dr Liz Royle

Liz started her crisis intervention career in 1996 and her experience spans many settings. As Senior Welfare Officer for Greater Manchester Police up to 2004, Liz was responsible for developing proactive strategy and training initiatives as well as leading a team providing 24 / 7 emergency cover and an immediate response herself following numerous line-of-duty police officer deaths, murders, suicides, hostage situations, multiple fatality accidents, public order and firearms incidents.

Since then, she has helped organisations including NHS Trusts, emergency services, the Council of the European Union, private and public sector, to strategically prepare for, and respond to, the human impact of workplace crises and trauma. Her past clinical career included training in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) in 1999 and becoming an EMDR Europe Approved Consultant in 2007. Liz has worked extensively with clients suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and crisis reactions resulting from childhood abuse, workplace violence, acts of terror and natural disasters. She was a founder member of the UK Psychological Trauma Society and is a multi-published, international author.

Liz has presented at many conferences around the world including the US, Europe and Oceania. She has been a certified trainer in Group Crisis Interventions for the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation for 20 years.

Family and nature are important for Liz in balancing her trauma work. She has two grown-up children and spends her spare time training up her border collie to work with her family’s sheep.

About Cath Kerr

Cath is an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society and a Chartered Counselling Psychologist. She began her career in the voluntary sector working with people who had experienced domestic violence.

Since then, she has gone on to specialise in managing the psychological impact of critical incidents, with an Masters in Psychological trauma and around 25 years’ experience of working with high-risk organisations and clients suffering from the full range of reactions to crisis and trauma from acute stress to Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). These have included serious assaults, sexual violence, hostage situations, firearms incidents, witnessing violence and death.

She is an EMDR consultant, internationally published author, and presenter. She is passionate about early intervention and getting support to people as soon as possible, this involves helping organisations to consider the extremely valuable human aspect of their business, enabling them to stay on course whatever storm they were forced to weather!

Working in the world of trauma has highlighted Cath’s awareness that life can change in a heartbeat, and that we never know what is around the corner. So, staying in the present moment enjoying a good work life balance, and connecting with her family, friends (and dog Max 😉) is extremely important to her
